Low back and neck pain are one of the most common complaints in the mining community; a study done in 2012 by the injury prevention centre showed that 64% of miners had back pain. At Dianella Chiropractic we see a lot of people from the mining community and we understand the impact work related injuries can have on the individual, not only physically but emotionally as well.

Why?

There are many factors in mining that contribute to this problem, some of the main factors include:

  • Sitting in machines for long periods

  • Sustained jarring and vibration in machines

  • Extreme temperatures

  • Poor sleep

  • Manual labour

  • Long shifts and consecutive days

These factors can lead to muscle tightening, stiff and restricted joints, disc injuries, repetitive injuries, accelerated spinal degeneration and ultimately, pain.

Common complaints

  • Low back pain

  • Neck pain and headaches

  • Stiffness and poor posture

  • Poor sleep

  • Leg pain

  • Repetitive strain injuries of wrist, elbow and shoulders

What can we do to help?

At Dianella Chiropractic we treat many people from the mining industry as well as local tradesmen and women. Our treatment modalities vary depending on the person and their complaint, and usually include spinal mobilisation/ manipulation, dry needling, soft tissue release, exercise/stretching prescription, lifestyle advice, and more.

Our goals are to get patients out of pain as quickly as possible, get them back to functioning to the best their body can and give them tools to manage while away on shift.
